Arbolada Estate
Story and Photos by Logan Hall
Privacy. Seclusion. Calm. Quiet — a sprawling, single level ranch-style home sits peacefully amongst the winding avenues and oak groves of Ojai’s Arbolada neighborhood. Built in 1953 on close to an acre of land, the home has a pool, built-in outdoor gas fireplace and barbecue, and a separate 500 square foot studio/office. In between each feature are rock lined paths and outdoor seating areas.
While the front of the property’s design was geared mostly toward aesthetics, the back is a mix of visceral charm and functionality with outdoor cooking/seating areas (left), a fire pit, and a saltwater pool/spa. Whether in the front or back, there’s no shortage of details like custom gate (right) and stonework throughout the landscaping.
From the patio, an entrance through glass sliding doors leads into the home’s interior. Once inside, the dining room opens to the kitchen (left) and breakfast nook with a large, single pane window overlooking the backyard (top left). Next to the dining room, the spacious living room (below) has built-in shelving, a brick fireplace, and hardwood floors. Down the hall past the guest rooms, the master bedroom (above) opens up with vaulted ceilings and two doors leading to the backyard. Gallery lighting and a brick fireplace lend a classic look with a modern feel.
Lights wink on and the fire pit roars as the sun sets on the Arbolada.
