“June” Gloom
Photos by Logan Hall
This week we take an aerial look at Ojai from Santa Ana and Casitas Pass roads. Gray skies have allowed the water to remain in the Ventura River a little longer than usual. Gray skies and a much wetter rainy season have also allowed Ojai to remain green through April.

Ojai Meadows Preserve

This week we take an aerial look at the Ojai Meadows Preserve. Dozens of wildflower species can be found in the Meadows Preserve. It has been carefully and painstakingly replanted with native species, cultivated in the greenhouse on the west end of the 58-acre property. Occasionally (usually in the spring and early fall) the greenhouse will open its doors to the public for native plant sales.

This week we take an aerial look at Dennison Grade. Dennison Grade, a 1.4 mile stretch of the 150, starts in Ojai’s east end and zig-zags up some 400 feet, ending in Upper Ojai. As you can see here, with or without an aerial perspective, there are some great views of the valley traveling up Dennison

This week we take an aerial look at Upper Ojai. A short drive from downtown, Upper Ojai, is located between the cities of Ojai and Santa Paula. Driving along the 150 through the pristine countryside of the Upper Ojai Valley, it’s hard to believe Los Angeles is a mere 80 miles away.

The “Y”

This week we take an aerial look at an area known as The “Y”– for obvious reasons. It is the largest and busiest intersection in Ojai and the main entrance into town. The Y contains one of Ojai’s busiest shopping centers where you really can get a lot done. Shopping at The Y includes groceries, pet supplies, hardware, clothes, and anything you can think of at Ojai Rexall. You can ship your packages, grab a bite to eat, and even get your nails done!

This week we take an aerial look at Ojai, after the recent storms. We’ve had some minor flooding, but are also seeing some very green hillsides, and lots of snow on the beautiful Topa Topa Mountains!

This week we take an aerial look at Ojai’s Cluff Vista Park. Cluff Vista Park is a small triangle of land in Ojai, that was once the site of a gas station. The abandoned lot was purchased by the Cluff family. The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy raised funds to landscape the park in 2005. It features a large stone monolith, fountain, a beautiful pergola and native landscaping.

This week we take an aerial look at California State Route 33, known simply as “The 33,” to Ojai locals. It’s not only our way home, but a great scenic drive, to just get out of town for a day or even a few hours. SR 33 follows Matilija Canyon past a portion of the Santa Ynez Mountains in Los Padres National Forest, and passes over the distinct transverse ranges at Pine Mountain Summit.
